Trump Marina Stuck in the Eighties, August 14, 2009

Reviewer: misterkup from Aberdeen, MD
Pros:
The view of the marina. If you are a boater, it is ideal.
Cons:
There is nothing there, to keep you there.

When you finally navigate your way to the Trump Marina, which is arguably the hardest hotel to get to in Atlantic City, it is hardly worth the wait and stress it took to get there. In fact, when you get there your first inclination is to turn and run. When you arrive you take an escalator up to the lobby, and you are greeted with the wonderful smell of the smoking section of the slots parlor. From the outdated carpet to the cheesy red velvet ropes that you weave through like an airport ticket line, at least you are greeted by a friendly staff, albeit wearing outdated, hideous, gold uniforms.Everything about the Trump Marina is tired, from the Hooters Restaurant to the overall decor. But one of the worst atrocities is the so-called buffet. Eating there for the free breakfast (and they should have paid me to eat there) convinced me that there was no need to go back for dinner. It was, for lack of a better term, embarrassing. The eggs were powdered, the "coffee" was deplorable, and the danishes were overbaked and out of fashion themselves. The rooms are perfectly fine, but we found little things that ticked us off; no racks for the hand towels, or soap dishes in the shower. The coffee pot was never thoroughly cleaned, with the filter from the day before left in. They forgot to stock up our toilet paper. The water pressure was pretty lame. They only offered drinks in the vending area. Since staying in your room is not THE most important thing in AC, you at least expect to not have to venture far from it to have a good time, or at least get a good meal at any time of the day or night. So what does the Trump Marina offer to keep you there? Not much. No poker room, no horse betting, a very small slots floor with a small selection of table games, a terrible selection of late night dining options, and it's location is isolated from the rest of AC. No big name entertainment. No razzle. No dazzle. As soon as you get there, you want to leave. They also do a terrible job of conveying what they do have because of poor signs and a lack of information (like, where they are located)! To add insult to injury, getting out of the self-parking garage was insane. They had exit ramps blocked off on almost every floor, and I was like a rat trying to find my way out of a maze. With all that being said, it wasn't a total nightmare - but I would NOT recommend it, and we will never stay there again. Any money we saved in staying there we spent on taxis and Jintas to go to more appealing properties, like the Borgata and Harrah's-run casinos. Our waiter commented to us at the buffet that things have not been the same since Ivana stopped running things, and it is clear to me that Trump operated casinos, the one we stayed at and the one's we visited, are two steps behind the competition. You feel the neglect.

The hotel was very clean, friendly staff that went overboard to help assist your needs. When you book make sure you book on-line for the best deal. We booked for two nights - received two buffet breakfasts and parking was free - you could come and go as many times as you liked at no extra cost. I would definately go back.

My husband and I truly loved this hotel. Its' marina location made it an attractive, peaceful vacation getaway. The staff was friendly and helpful. Housekeeping was excellent and all of the facilities were spotless. The newly renovated fitness center and spa was beautifully appointed. I can't wait to return and book a spa treatment. A wonderful value for the money.

When we arrived, we checked in and our room was not ready, which we were fine with but we had to return to guest services twice until they finally gave us a room that was assigned to someone else because they had not arrived at that time. We did not get our room until after 6pm, therefore messed up our dinner plans.
The room was comfortable with a nice view, price wasn't that bad and the location was perfect for us to see a show at the borgata.

It was our 1-st stay at Trump Marina hotel. We came with a two years old baby and our vacation was very pleasant. We really enjoy the breakfast buffet(Michael-thank you)and outdoor pool which was also very good for a baby as well a grownups.Only cons were the location, every time we wanted to go to boardwalk we have to take a car but there is a shuttle service buses which rides around town 24/7 for only a 2.25$.We'll be back.Thank you

I came in as part of a group of 15 people. The person who set up our conference got a great price $49 per night with free parking and free breakfasts. Upon checkin, most people received an envelope with coupons for a buy one get one free breakfast, a parking voucher (good for one day, not the entire stay), free admission to the Spa for 2 guests or 10% off any service (closed by time we got out of our meetings, and one for match play. When people questioned the parking, they were told just to get a players card and parking would be free. Some people were not given coupons and the front desk staff was not helpful at all. My first room had minimal water pressure in the bathroom sink. I moved to another room and the water pressure was fine but the towel rack was coming out of the wall and the toilet seat moved (never repaired during our stay). There were burn holes in the rugs (non-smoking room) & wallpaper was peeling off the walls. My husband complained vigorously to the front desk manager and was able to obtain a comp for the buffet (closes at 7) which equated to $5 off per person. For $15 per person, the buffet was satisfactory. When I was trying to check out, there was no one at the front desk. There were 2 employees talking nearby and I asked them to call someone for me. They responded telling me to just "stay there, someone will see you on the camera." Several minutes later I asked them for assistance again and was told to just wait there. While I suppose this is all you can expect for $49 a night, I would never again stay at the Trump Marina, nor would I use ACHotels to reserve - for them to put up a group of business people without informing the person making the reservations about the state of disrepair at the hotel is unacceptable. This company and this hotel do not help in attracting visitors/business to Atlantic City.

This was my husband's & my first stay at Trump Marina (usually we get comped at the Borgata), & we were pleasantly surprised! We got a good on-line price deal for a Mon./Tues. night stay, & found the basic room quite adequate for our needs (we were renting, not buying). It was clean & comfortable, although the walls were thin, & we did hear our neighbors on either side of us. Luckily, I brought ear-plugs. The hotel layout was compact, which meant we didn't have to do too much excess walking between our room & the casino area or food places. The Buffet, while not even close to the Borgata standards (nothing is), was more "down-home" like (more comparable to the casinos in Colorado), & we were able to find many choices to our liking. For lunches, we discovered a little pizzeria place with very reasonable prices & delicious food. They also had free tennis courts available -- a definite plus, in my book! The staff was friendly & helpful -- I think that tends to be a two-way street, wherever you go. Best of all, I play Blackjack, & was able to do VERY well, even though the number of tables available was somewhat limited. We will definitely include this casino in our repertoire, especially if they start sending us comps!

My husband and I decided at the last minute to celebrate our 13th wedding anniversary in Atlantic City and chose the Trump Marina for its more affordable room prices. We arrived on Saturday afternoon and enjoyed a few hours at the pool. We did not make reservations ahead of time for dinner, and ended up at the Seafood Buffet. THe food was average, and most of it was lukewarm at best. We then enjoyed a magic show which was part of our reservation package. We spent the rest of the evening between the Deck Bar, (which had an awesome band - - Dont Call Me Francis), the casino, the Casino Bar, and The Wave Nightclub. The room itself was quite nice, however the walls seemed to be paper thin as we could hear regular conversations between our neighbors in the adjoining rooms. Overall we were very pleased with the Hotel/Casino and would definitely return to the Trump Marina.
